Galley Workers
The U.S. Navy, Goodwill and NISH are partnered at Great Lakes through the Javits-Wagner-O’Day (JWOD) Program. This program provides good employment opportunities for people with disabilities to overcome barriers to employment through training so that they become independent and self-sustaining individuals who contribute to their communities. Goodwill provides trained professionals who work directly and closely with individuals with severe disabilities.

While a Navy base may not be a place where you would expect to find a Goodwill operation, Goodwill provides food service, laundry, administrative and logistic services to both Sailors and recruits at Naval Station Great Lakes. In Fiscal Year 2005 Goodwill staff served more than 8.5 million meals, processed more than 1.6 million pounds of laundry and issued uniforms to more than 39 thousand recruits. The 25-year relationship has been repeatedly recognized and honored by multiple organizations as a stellar example of a partnership at its best.
